Potted Impatient Plant by Peni Baker

This is a 3" x 3" gallery wrap canvas with its own easel for table display. I painted this painting while on my first plein air session at Rock City Nursery here in Wabasso, Florida. This was one of two canvases I took with me to paint. Working on both canvases at the same time worked out good for me. The floral pot of impatients is a small part of a larger painting. I will include the photo of the garden area I was painting in so you can actually see the real potted plant of impatients.
Price $ 65.00

Plein Air for the first time by Peni Baker

this is a photo of the results of my first time ever plein air excursion. It was a great experience and a lot of fun. I took two canvas with me. An 8" x 10" and a 3" x 3". It turned out to be a good idea to take two canvases. I was able to work on them both at the same time and finished my 3" x 3" and it is up for sale. The plain air location was Rock City Nursery in Wabasso Florida. I chose a spot with a beautiful view of a water fountain made in a large clay pot. It was surrounded by beautiful plants and a stone wall with steps and a walkway. Real Pretty. I've included a photo. I'm going to try to stay realistic with the pricing. I got a very good start on the 8" x 10" canvas and have nice photos so I will work on it along with 2 portraits I'm currently working on. I ought to have it finished and up for sale in a few weeks. Enjoy

Blue Shanty by Peni Baker

16" x 20" acrylic canvas gallery wrap.
I was inspired to do this painting after returning home from a trip to the Dominican Republic. While going thru the photographs of the trip I ran across this one that reminded me of my driving escapade in this foreign country.
This is a painting of Ramon in front of his mom's house in Cabrera, Dominican Republic. Ramon is my son's friend & my driver while I was visiting his country. Ramon usually drove his motorcycle with my son up the mountain to the villa where I was staying. He would then take us out in my jeep for a day of sight seeing. I decided, on that particular morning in the photo, that I would drive myself into town so I could get used to the crazy foreign traffic. I couldn't remember where he lived so I decided that if I continued to drive around the small town of Cabrera, I would eventually find that distinct little "Blue Shanty". I did! He saw me and came running out of the house throwing on his T-shirt saying "can I go, can I go", and as you can see, his dog was running out the door as well. Look behind the motor cycle in the lower door entrance and you will see the spotted dog. Also one of Ramon's mother's friends is looking out the door at me. It was a big event for them to have a visitor from America in a rented vehicle pull up in front of their house. I'll always remember that distinct Little "Blue Shanty" and the entire trip and my son's friend Ramon.
This painting may be purchased for $ 1,300.00 at Artbypenibaker.blogspot.com. Send me an email at penelopepab@aol.com with any questions or needs. Thank you very much

April 18, 2010 - Making a blog work

I was very determined. I'm always very determined. I have always considered myself the "Queen of Making Do". I must say though, I just can't make this blog do what I want it to do. Rather then be frustrated, I'm just going to take a deep breath and move on.
I was unable to make a date appear on the top of each one of my post. So I will be typing it in along with the title of my post. And a number. I'm going to give my post a number. I'm sure that I will eventually learn how to do it. But until then, I would Rather be painting. And every once in a while, I would like to sell a painting.
So enough with this frustration stuff. I'm going to go enter the Daily Painters contest. If I don't win I will be satisfied in knowing that some of the best have seen my work. Thank you everybody.
Please, if you don't check out anything else then check out my video of "The making of a beautiful Mexican dancer in the post below this one. It was such a pleasure to paint and make the video for youtube and my blog and facebook and all my friends. Enjoy!!!!!!!

Still working on her

I'm sorry I'm so conceited but she just keeps getting prettier. There comes a certain point in a painting where it would be a mistake to go further. I just have some minor details to work out in her lace trim and tiny little things on her face. And then a signature. I can't wait.
And soon will be the unveiling of my other Cinco de Mayo painting.
I forgot to say that the beautiful Mexican girl's face is exactly 1" wide from ear to ear.

She is coming along so is the other one

This is a piece I'm doing for a Cinco de Mayo contest being held at the Artist Guild Gallery in Vero Beach. Cinco de Mayo is 5/5/2010. Also I'm doing another for the same contest. Earlier in my blog I posted a painting that was veiled for only slight viewing. It's almost finished and when this beautiful Mexican dancer is finished I will show you both of them. They are both 5" x 5" gallery wrapped canvas (acrylic of course) cost $15 to enter contest an all paintings will be selling for $ 55 dollars. there will probably be about 400 paintings for sale. One can only hope that one of theirs will be purchased. Also it wouldn't be half bad to receive a ribbon.
